Team BGB-MK’s Favorite Bike Park – Snowshoe Race #1

Team BGB-Mountain Khakis kicked off three busy months of jamb-packed racing with a trip to the team’s favorite place to “play”, Snowshoe Resort. With 1500 feet of drop, 40+ trails, a village with all the necessary amenities, a new lift schedule for 2012, new triple threat lift bike racks, how could you not love the place?!

This was first of three series races to be held in the mountains of West Virginia, always an anticipated return for some vets, but also a new venture for three of our riders. Jay Guidry, Nick Frantz, and Nich Ifkovits were all in for a real treat. As expected, after the rookies’ first runs down the Western side of the mountain a perma-smile was plastered on their faces…. we told ya’ll!

Friday was considered our “play day”, which meant bike tuning for some with new race steeds, body conditioning for others, and getting the initial “I’M STOKED” out of the newbies. The team explored all that “The Shoe” had to offer, trails here, trails over there, trails literally everywhere. Too much fun! This place NEVER gets old!

Early Saturday morning it was off to Starbucks in the mountain village for a cup of Joe with a quick stop to “The Depot” for race registration. The weather offered nothing but sunshine for a full day of finding the fastest lines, with an err on the side of caution not to expend too much energy resulting in those rubber legs.

Race day (Sunday) started with two hours of practice, from 0900 to 1000 all were welcome and 1000 to 1100 was reserved for the Elite (Pro) Men and Women. The first rider was released at 1130 with the last rider hit the starting gate just about 1420. Nich Ifkovits was first team rider down the course in the Intro Class with Rob DeMao sealing the deal with the team roster in the Elite class. All eyes were on the Pros and this race day was a day for the young guns. Congrats to Jay Fesperman (GROM), Luca and Walker Shaw (Specialized) for sweeping the podium. For Team BGB-MK it was day for the mountain rookies, with Jay Guidry taking the second place podium spot in Men’s Weekend Warrior 18-29 and Nick Frantz taking the top spot in Men’s Weekend Warrior 30-39. Congrats guys!

The team has a short 5 day break getting to normal life/work, then back to ripping the trails at the first DH Nationals Qualifier for the 2012 US Gravity National Championships at Beech Mountain Resort. Never a break for the weary! Props to Matt Ramey and the entire Snowshoe squad for the first Snowshoe event of the season. We’ll be back in July for the next round of the series! See you on the podium!

Sponsorship of what? The team? The race?

Sounds like fun. Is it too late in the season to apply for sponsorship?
